Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most about NHS Continuing Healthcare.
Common questions
Is CHC the same as social care funding?
No. NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is arranged and funded by the NHS for people whose primary need is a health need. Social care is usually means-tested by the local authority.
Can you help if our application has already been turned down?
Yes. We can review the decision, advise on whether an appeal is realistic and support you with the appeal process if appropriate.
Do you make the CHC decision?
No. Decisions are made by the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB). Our role is to help you understand the criteria, gather evidence and present your case clearly.
Can you replace legal advice or representation?
We do not provide legal advice. Instead, we offer clinical and practical guidance based on the National Framework, helping you to present clear, robust evidence.
Do you work with care homes and other organisations?
Yes. We support care homes, supported living providers and other organisations that want to improve how they identify CHC cases and support families through the pathway.
